My Pedagogic Creed
What is Education?
I believe education is the foundation of an individual’s life, without it humans would not survive. Education is a continuous journey full of curiosity. Beginning from birth, individuals are forming their values, beliefs, ideas, and emotions. I believe gaining knowledge throughout our educational experiences is what shapes our identity. Education is a social process in which individuals have the opportunity to express their opinions, learn from others and explore new things. I believe having the ability to acquire and expand knowledge should be accessible to everyone. There should be no limitations, rules or exclusions to learning. Education is constantly changing as it evolves from paradigm to paradigm. Individuals become lifelong learners as education changes to ones needs. I believe education is key to success.
What is the purpose of school?
I believe the purpose of school is to expand one’s curiosity and desire to learn. School is a safe sanctuary where students can express their thoughts and feelings, ask questions, and make mistakes. School is a place where students can take risks and feel apart of something. Building relationships to gain a sense of community is the significance of school. Having strong relationships to lean on for support or laugh with is the outcome of the social process called school. School is built with collaboration, passion, teamwork, respect and curiosity. School is where an individual explores the knowledge and skills needed for life.
What is the nature of excellent teaching methods?
I believe students are the inspiration of learning and teaching. As I teacher I learn more from my students than I could teach them in a lifetime. It is essential that I build and maintain a strong relationship with each and every student. Building a positive environment in the classroom will enable the continuous learning of not only my students but I as well. To construct a positive learning environment I must focus around inclusive education, differentiation and student success. Every student deserves to have his or her own voice, opinion and ability to learn. Through differentiated instruction I can achieve the goal of inclusion. To encourage learning, I need to create an engaging passionate atmosphere. I can achieve this by incorporating active and project-based learning. I believe students should have the opportunity to use their imagination and create a masterpiece based on their overall understanding of materials. I also believe in fairness. Fairness defined as, providing each student with tools and strategies to meet his or her needs in order to be successful. I will believe in the potential of each of my students.
The Subject Matter of Education
I believe as educators, we must prepare students for the future, for life. We should teach students the skills needed to survive on their own. We should focus on the social skills of individuals, including their experiences as teaching tools. Social context is a significant role in education. A variety of subject matter should be taught; from basic math skills, history, Canadian and multicultural customs, science and experimentation, Language arts from reading and writing, visual representation and listening skills. Scaffolding curricula is idyllic. Creating a foundation of skills and frameworks to build upon as learning takes place is the best way for children to retain and practice lessons taught. It is important to include lessons to foster analytical thinking skills. Ways for children to think outside the box, there can be more than one way to reach the answer. I believe application of knowledge is the most effective way to teach. Encouraging the students to create something hands on deepens their understanding and embeds the material into their brain. These applications create fun ways to foster a love of knowledge, and foster lifelong learning.
