Personal/Professional Attributes: TQS #12, 13, 14, 15, 16
As an educator you are a model to children and youth therefore life long learning starts with you. It is our responsibility to learn and grow from new experiences and opportunities. Whether it is teachers’ convention, professional development sessions, courses online, and/or training such as mental health, first aid, suicide intervention, etc., knowledge and skills should be consumed continually. As my curiosity expands and my desire to learn increases I search for new ways to take the responsibility educators have to obtain the role of a career-long learner. As I assess my teaching daily I am growing individually and professionally as an educator. I am constantly finding new ways to instruct, new ways for students to express their knowledge and understanding, and new ways for students to achieve success in learning. Building and becoming embedded in a positive inquisitive environment will enable the continuous learning of not only children and youth, but I as well.

Connection with Parents
Throughout my internship I have had several opportunities to get to know the parents and involve them in their child’s learning. I sent out a letter to parents introducing myself and stating my role in the classroom to initiate the relationship between teacher and parent. Parents have also volunteered in the classroom during their child’s snack/leader day, which has not only giving me the opportunity to work with them and integrate them into our learning environment but also gives the parents’ opportunities to be familiar with our routines, activities and tasks. As parents acknowledge what is being done in the classroom they can incorporate the same learning at home. The strength of these partnerships grew during child-parent-teacher conferences where I had the pleasure to assist in leading the child through numerous assessments to present the growth and progression they have achieved. I continue to work towards building stronger partnerships among teachers, parents and students as I continue on my career path as an educator.

Field Trips
Throughout my internship I had the opportunity to lead whole group field trips. My responsibilities included planning, organizing groups and materials, gathering the parent volunteers and ensuring they knew their role, and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Taking charge of the extra-curricular activity made me feel a sense of accomplishment and connection to the children and parents.

School Connections
I was provided the opportunity to lead the Kindergarten class through a performance for the school during a leadership assembly in which the children sang an action song. Being embedded in the school community is important to me as it increases a sense of belonging and unity. I strive to continue to contribute to the quality of the school to enhance and maintain a positive enlightening environment.

Building Relationships
Learning in an effective positive environment starts with relationships. It is foundational that children and youth know they are cared for and loved by you. They need encouragement, support and guidance in the direction of success. As an educator you are responsible for provided opportunities that connect the children and youth to you. Showing you believe in them is the most essential key in learning and growing.
