Key ConceptsI believe reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing are all equally important strands of literacy. These six strands should be incorporated into all subject areas of education as they are the foundational block of the learning process. Without literacy individuals would not be able to create, connect and communicate information. Literacy is an essential tool in order to reach success. The key connections I have made encompass my teaching ideals.

Resources for TeachersThere are TONS of resources for teaching! Websites, blogs, texts, and curriculum lab materials were all useful tools in the making of my website. Creating my literacy pages I thought Physical Education would be a tricky subject when searching for resources to incorporate the six strands but fortunately it was not. Once I starting looking I found millions of tips, aids, tools, etc. to help effectively teach literacy in Physical Education. Being introduced to new experiences I will update the resource tabs with ones have been exposed to and find useful.

Strategies and Lesson PlansDuring the process of building my website, I found a variety of strategies for all six strands of literacy. However, when it came to Physical Education I had to have an open mind and a touch of creativity. From previous experiences I created lesson plans which I found suited several literacy pages very well. I will continuously add strategies and lessons plans I use during my progression in the teaching profession.

Curriculum ConnectionsReferring back to the Alberta Education Program of Studies, I learned the importance of literacy not only in English Language Arts but other subjects as well. Through the creation of my literacy pages I now understand the significance in the balance between all six strands. I believe communication, either reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing or representing, is the key to understanding the world and developing individual meaning.
